Artist Bio

Sabrina is a mixed media artist based in Tauranga, New Zealand. With a Bachelor of Design (fashion), she has cultivated a diverse creative background. In recent years, her passion for painting has reignited, leading Sabrina to create captivating works in her spare time while maintaining a full-time job as a visual merchandiser.

Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, she discovered her artistic flair from an early age whilst studying art, clothing and design throughout her school years. Since 2018 Sabrina has participated in numerous group exhibitions in both Melbourne and Tauranga. Her work reflects a unique blend of design sensibility and artistic expression.

When Sabrina isn’t making art, you can find her walking in a forest or at the beach, observing shadows and textures, relaxing with her fiancé drinking a gin and tonic.

Artist Statement

My artwork reflects the beauty found in nature, the subtle dance of light, the tactile allure of textures, the shapes in a landscape or the movement of water. These inspirations are captured in a photograph or filter through by memory and form a starting point for my painting practice.

Working intuitively, I build up layers of paint, mark making and collage using various tools to create texture, depth and intrigue. Each painting emerges over time and without a known outcome. Often new ideas spark during the unpredictable nature of my process and flow into other works.

For me, art is not just a form of expression; each stroke of the brush, each layer of collage, is a deliberate act of self-discovery and reflection. My painting practice is a form of relaxation and in my home studio all distractions fade into the background.

“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way - things I had no words for.”

— Georgia O’Keeffe
